Image Quality & Themes
Paperblanks is known for its dedication to artistic and cultural expression, directly pulling designs from their famous journals. The images are high-quality, and the durability is enhanced by special finishes.
A major pro is that many puzzles in their collection are finished with a unique tactile quality, often a soft, luxurious velvet texture or striking foil accents, which adds immensely to the visual and handling experience.
Themes are diverse, reflecting their artistic roots:
Artistic Masterpieces & Cultural Motifs (Inspired by antique book covers, manuscripts, and art history)
Nature and Wildlife (Including celestial imagery)
Fantasy and Mythology
Ornamental Designs (Intricate patterns often with gold accents)
✋ Hands On Experience
I was pleasantly surprised to find it had a velvet finish with foil accents; the moon and sky had a silvery finish, while the bird feathers had copper accents.
My Moon Garden puzzle, by Gary Grayson, was visually stunning, and the unique finish was a true highlight. The thickness of the pieces is a respectable 1.8 mm, and the cut is a standard grid cut. However, the pieces were a bit on the loose side. It wasn’t possible for me to work in and move large assembled sections independently of the puzzle board, so I just slid my sections around.
For me, this particular puzzle presented a medium challenge, and one I would definitely consider preserving! I’m already looking forward to starting the Butterfly Garden puzzle and hoping it has the same beautiful finish.
Pros and Cons
✅ Pros (The Experience & Quality)
Unique Finishes: Features coveted velvet texture and foil accents on many designs.
Stunning Artwork: Designs are beautiful, detailed, and culturally inspired.
Low Dust: Clean assembly experience.
Eco-Friendly: Uses responsibly sourced cardboard.
Great for Preserving: The final result is highly displayable.
❌ Cons (Minor Imperfections)
Loose Piece Fit: The “loose-ish” fit prevents moving large sections of the puzzle.
Limited Piece Count: Currently only available in 500 and 1000 pieces.
Made in China (May deter those seeking domestic manufacturing).
💡 Final Thoughts: The Verdict
If you value a visually stunning final result and enjoy a luxurious feel while you puzzle, this brand is an excellent choice. While the loose fit is a slight drawback, the combination of gorgeous art, the velvet finish, and the foil accents makes them truly stand out.
